Moriah Concert Band Performance

THE LION'S ROAR November 29, 2017     Culture, News

This morning, November 29th, the Concert Band from Moriah College in Sydney, Australia performed for the Schechter Westchester community. The entire Upper School, students and faculty, listened to an hour-long performance.

The songs performed included renditions of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Bridge Over Troubled Waters,” a Fiddler on the Roof medley as well as Gershwin and Sinatra medleys. The performance concluded with a standing ovation from the audience.

Moriah College is an Orthodox Jewish day school with a concert band of over 40 students. According to Tasin, who plays flute for the band, on this tour they have already performed in Los Angeles and at Disneyland before coming to SW. After New York, their next destination is Israel.

Tasin explained the band’s preparation for the tour, saying, “It’s so exciting, because it’s so much hard work before we perform. We have to practice every day for three hours, and we have to give up one of our school holiday weeks, and then you’re finally here, and you’re just playing what you love, so it’s so much fun.”
