Out of Breath to Get to Class

The Lion's Roar June 1, 2015     Rivki

Dear Rivki,

Because I don’t want to be late to class, I have to run up and down stairs and I begin every period panting. My weak legs can’t handle it. How can I fix the pain?

Sincerely,

Late and In-Pain

Dear Late and In-Pain,

Wow. I feel your pain, literally. It would be very beneficial for you to stretch your legs every night before you go to sleep and every morning before you come to school. In addition, have a water bottle with you at all times to relieve your panting. Drinking water will help loosen your muscles and keep your body hydrated. Also, walking up the stairs is not a race, so take your time and do not push yourself past your limit. We do only have two short floors in the school with four minutes to walk to each period. Despite your pain, you are building so much muscle every day without even trying! Think about it this way: you can now have that extra pretzel or churro at lunch since you will burn it off as soon as you walk to your next class! As the old Miley Cyrus once said, “It’s the climb” and you “gotta keep movin,’ keep climbin.’”

Sincerely,

Rivki
